Job Summary
The Clinic Medical Assistant supports healthcare providers and clinical staff by performing both clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient care. This role is essential in creating a safe, organized, and compassionate environment for patients.
About the Role
This role reports to the Director, Outpatient Services and Manager, Business Office. The hourly range for this position is $18.75 - $27.46 (posted hourly range excludes overtime and bonuses which are not guaranteed).
Essential Job Functions
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during clinical procedures
- Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and patient information accurately
- Perform basic clinical tasks such as injections, specimen collection, and EKGs (as permitted by scope of practice)
- Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked exam rooms
- Document patient care in electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Schedule patient appointments and assist with patient flow
- Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA guidelines
Additional Duties
- Aid with front desk tasks, including patient check-in and check-out
- Handle phone calls, messages, and patient inquiries as needed
- Support inventory management and ordering of medical supplies
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuing education
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education
- Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred. Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred or required per clinic policy.
Experience
- Experience: 1–2 years of experience in a clinical or medical office setting preferred. Experience with EHR systems and basic clinical procedures preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Standing, walking, and moving throughout the clinic for extended periods
- Lifting or moving up to 25 pounds
- Manual dexterity to perform clinical tasks and use medical equipment
- Clear communication with patients and staff
Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures
- Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste
- Proximity to moving mechanical parts
ASH IMMUNIZATIONS AND VACCINATIONS REQUIREMENTS
- Hepatitis B: Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals
- Influenza: Documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
- Measles, Mumps, and Rubella: Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
- Varicella (chickenpox): Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
- Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap): documented proof of immunization
- Tuberculosis Screening: Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months
