Responsibilities
- Provide ancillary clinical support to clinic providers to ensure patient care is delivered effectively and efficiently through collaboration with the primary care provider (PCP) and other medical assistants.
- Prepare patients for examinations, including taking vital signs, recording patient history, drawing blood per PCP orders, and authorizing prescription refills.
- Manage inventory of medical supplies and equipment, and maintain clean and safe clinical areas.
- Provide health education for patients under the provider’s direction.
- Assist providers with patient examinations, therapeutic measures, and procedures.
- Perform routine screening tests and explain treatment procedures and physicians' instructions to patients.
- Monitor and record physiological measurements, and provide treatment to patients per protocols.
- Observe patients and report changes in patient conditions to the PCP or other clinical personnel.
- Perform tasks within the scope of educational preparation and permitted by policies and guidelines.
- Request and coordinate radiographic and/or laboratory studies as directed by the healthcare provider.
- Order, prepare, and generate appropriate medical records.
- Receive, screen, and coordinate telephone calls from patients and healthcare providers.
- Provide health coaching to a defined group of patients and follow up with them.
- Maintain supplies, equipment, and sterilize instruments while practicing OSHA safety standards.
- Process patient phone messages, return calls, and route them appropriately.
- Handle fax-related tasks, including dividing, attaching, and finalizing documents.
- Perform other duties as assigned or modified at the manager’s discretion.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education (GED) required.
- Graduate of an approved training class for Medical Assistants preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or similar role in a hospital, medical clinic, or comparable environment. Documented clinical rotation training can substitute for work experience.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Health Care workers or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification preferred.
- Compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintaining strict confidentiality of client information.
- Compliance with Infection Control, Standard Precautions, and OSHA standards for healthcare professionals.
- Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus.
- Exceptional oral and written communication, time management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with employees, patients, and others.
- Problem-solving mindset focused on patient care and team goals.
- Knowledge of medical products, terminology, services, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to remain calm in busy or stressful situations.
- Strong listening skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel locally and/or regionally up to 10% of the time to assist in covering other centers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) and other word-processing, spreadsheet, database, email, and presentation software.
- Typing speed of at least 40 WPM.
- Skilled in basic phone and computer operation.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and with other team members.
- Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner.
- Detail-oriented to ensure accuracy of reports and data.
- Proficiency in problem-solving, multitasking, and following instructions.
- Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in English.
- Bilingual (Creole) is required.
- HIPAA and AHCA experience preferred.
- Healthcare experience preferred.
- EMR system experience preferred.
