About the role

Core to the ArchWell Health approach is a robust clinical care team focused on the needs of our members. Care teams deliver excellent and compassionate primary care and coordinate member care with the broader healthcare delivery system. The Medical Assistant (MA) is a critical role supporting the Primary Care Provider (PCP) day-to-day to ensure efficiency in patient care. MAs work closely and collaboratively with teammates to greet and room ArchWell Health members, assist in assessing patient health conditions, and perform routine diagnostic testing during appointments.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient intake, measuring and recording vital signs, patient interview, and medical history.
  • Perform examinations and routine screenings, ensuring patients are informed and all questions and concerns are addressed for each procedure.
  • Critically listen and engage with patients throughout the appointment, reporting needs or changes in patient conditions to the PCP, specialists, or other clinical personnel.
  • Process patient phone messages, including returning calls, routing calls to other team members as appropriate, and calling patients to obtain and relay pertinent information for the physician.
  • Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and perform other first aid procedures under physician supervision; use CPR skills when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards and conduct accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
  • Provide health coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthy lifestyle choices; follow up with coached patients via weekly calls.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education (GED) required.
  • Must be bilingual (language specified during selection process) and able to pass a formal proficiency exam.
  • A minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • 6+ months of phlebotomy experience is highly desired.
  • Graduation from a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program OR comparable healthcare vocational training (e.g., foreign-trained physician, paramedic) required.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.
  • EClinicalWorks or similar EMR experience.
  • Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus.

  • Self-starter with the ability to think creatively and work effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively with various seniorities and diverse populations, including staff, providers, members, family members, insurance carriers, vendors, and market leadership.
  • Strong communicator with a customer-oriented approach.
  • Excellent critical reasoning, decision-making, and problem-solving skills to analyze situations, determine risks, and find solutions.
  • Experience with claims/quality reports and analytical software packages.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) and other word-processing, spreadsheet, database, email, and presentation software.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for company meetings.
