About the Role
This position is part of the Clinic Network at Valley Medical Center. The role involves critical duties and essential functions of a Medical Assistant, with responsibilities reviewed and revised to meet the changing needs of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Perform within legal and ethical boundaries; document patient communication and clinical treatments accurately.
- Maintain medical records and comply with State, Federal, and regulatory agency requirements.
- Anticipate and facilitate provider workflow; inform and update patients of anticipated wait times.
- Assist providers with patient flow and time management.
- Perform initial intake screening, including verifying the reason for the patient visit and obtaining vital signs per network policy.
- Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas; prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments; maintain and update medication and immunization records.
- Complete all forms and data sets for patient care within the scope of practice.
- Schedule, coordinate, and monitor appointments; complete patient recalls daily.
- Apply principles of aseptic techniques and infection control; practice standard precautions, including hand washing and disposal of biohazards.
- Perform inventory of supplies and equipment; maintain administrative and clinical equipment.
- Apply computer and electronic equipment techniques to support office operations.
- Review and complete ancillary charges for office visits; perform "clean" billing submittals.
- Perform venous and capillary invasive procedures for blood withdrawal.
- Administer intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injections.
- Apply or assist with the application of durable medical equipment.
- Administer medications and immunizations as ordered by the provider and within scope of practice.
- Perform tympanograms and ear irrigations (with provider order).
- Perform waived laboratory tests; provide approved patient education and instructions.
- Manage back-office duties, including multitasking, prioritizing, and organizing workflow for providers.
- Participate in huddles with providers to anticipate needs, orders, and procedures for the day.
- Track patient arrivals, manage messages, and forward them to the appropriate provider.
- Contact patients when messages have been answered and record messages in the EMR.
- Call pharmacies to submit prescriptions approved in the EMR or refax through electronic fax.
- Facilitate care management calls if necessary; expedite written orders from providers (no verbal orders).
- Fax or mail paperwork to pharmacies, other medical centers, and/or patients; ensure all paperwork is signed off by the appropriate provider in a timely manner.
- Manage messaging and order workflow; organize and allocate orders in a timely fashion.
- Research and respond to messages promptly; act as a liaison between PSR, MA, and providers.
Requirements
- Vetted by the State through testing as a Medical Assistant Certified (MA-C).
- Good to excellent computer skills, including the ability to navigate between multiple applications.
- 1 year of experience preferred (2 years for OBGYN Clinic positions, specifically in outpatient/medical office settings).
- Able to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
- Current American Heart Association CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers.

Pay
Salary range: $30.49–$46.17 per hour, depending on experience.
