About the Role

Under direct supervision of the clinic manager and the general supervision of the clinic providers and licensed nursing staff, the Medical Assistant performs work that requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within the business and profession code of the State of California and/or the regulations of The Joint Commission (TJC). These duties include scheduling patient appointments and associated patient system screens, accurate billing, environmental care functions, equipment/supply management, and cleaning/disinfecting the environment. This role requires knowledge of medical terminology, online scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics. The position demands initiative, the ability to prioritize demands, and the ability to work in a team environment. Performs other related duties as required.

Depending on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the MAII or MAIII level.

Responsibilities

• Schedule patient appointments and manage associated patient system screens
• Perform accurate billing and environmental care functions
• Manage equipment and supplies
• Clean and disinfect the clinical environment
• Utilize medical terminology, online scheduling, and universal precautions

Additional Duties (Medical Assistant III)

• Perform additional clinical responsibilities in specialized health fields using additional certification and/or training
• Utilize certified phlebotomy technician certification to:
  • Follow phlebotomy identification protocols to correctly identify all patients
  • Label all specimens with the correct label
  • Perform venipuncture and blood culture collection under aseptic conditions
  • Perform venipuncture using a syringe or other needle safety devices for specialized testing (e.g., Venous Blood Gas)
  • Recognize and meet productivity and quality standards
  • Perform timed phlebotomy draws

Requirements

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program
• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within six (6) months of hire date
• Two (2) or more years of relevant experience
• Experience working with oncology patients
• Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, online scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics
• Strong ability to take initiative, prioritize demands, and work in a team environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications (Medical Assistant III)

• Three (3) years of medical assistant experience
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician Certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in an oncology ambulatory setting
• Urgent care and emergency department experience
• EPIC experience

Special Conditions

• Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs
• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical

Pay

Hiring pay scale: $25.31 - $31.50 per hour

Annual full pay range: $56,063 - $69,760 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly equivalent: $26.85 - $33.41

Factors in determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

80% appointment (4 days per week, 8-hour shifts), Sunday through Saturday
