About the role

Responsible for covering clinical offices based on operational need. Assists in the examination of patients under the direction of a Physician or Allied Health professional, and in accordance with M.A. scope of practice. Thorough knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients’ needs and ensure smooth patient flow.
  • Maintain accurate attention to physician orders and properly schedule and follow up on tests and procedures.
  • Act as an intermediary between physician and patients to optimize physician time.
  • Collect patient data and maintain organized charts.
  • Log procedures and keep billing and patient charges current.
  • Accurately complete tick sheets and document patient instructions for injections and scheduled medications.
  • Prepare patients for visits, including vital signs, charting, and addressing individual needs.
  • Prepare patients for minor procedures and ensure correct consent information is completed.
  • Demonstrate technical skills in patient care, including injections, handling instruments, cleaning wounds, and handling body fluids.
  • Practice sterile technique for minor surgical procedures and wound care.
  • Explain procedures to patients and families to gain cooperation and understanding.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for examinations, assist physicians with procedures, clean rooms, and sterilize equipment after use.
  • Administer prescribed medication orally or by injection (per policy scope of service) and document time, dosage, and route on patient chart.
  • Perform electrocardiograph (EKG), pulse oximetry, inhalation treatments, and operate other certified equipment.
  • Complete all documentation to ensure accurate medical records.
  • Ensure physician has signed charts and review orders to verify completion.
  • Return patient charts to medical records.
  • Inventory and order medical supplies and materials as needed.
  • Discard expired sample medications and patient supplies upon expiration date.
  • Support and practice the policies and procedures of nursing.
  • Function within the scope of Medical Assistant practice and Riverside Medical Clinic policies.
  • Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One (1) year of medical group experience preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Certification required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) certification required.
