About the role

The role is available for Medical Assistants with 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in a medical setting. Key responsibilities include aseptic technique, basic wound care, patient safety, and patient transport techniques. Knowledge of communication of patient status and basic medical terminology is also required.

Responsibilities

• Reports changes in patient's condition to the RN or MD.
• Completes duties requesting assistance as needed.
• Communicates when deadlines cannot be met and identifies barriers to task completion.
• Initiates emergency interventions (heartsaver) as appropriate according to unit-based standard of care.
• Provides status report of patient verbally to RN and other colleagues.
• Notifies appropriate personnel of urgent/emergent situations.
• Maintains documentation accurately and follows guidelines for documentation.
• Participates in education by completing mandatory e-learning and maintaining clinical competency.
• Promotes patient safety and infection control by following policies and procedures.
• Monitors other patients on the unit during emergencies and communicates issues to the appropriate nurse.
• Works collaboratively with others within the unit and department.
• Prepares patient for invasive joint injections/aspirations using sterile techniques.
• Stocks exam rooms weekly and as needed.
• Maintains patient care areas clean and presentable.
• Obtains and reports vital signs to the RN or physician.
• Assists with wound care under direct supervision of clinical privileged license personnel.

Qualifications

Required: High school diploma or equivalent, specialized or vocational courses, and successful completion of a certified medical assistant training program. Certifications/Licenses: Medical Assistant certification. Additional outpatient didactic and clinical training such as a corpsmen or patient care associate program, or equivalent experience is preferred.

Skills

• Good basic computer skills.
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred.
