Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Room Preparation and Maintenance
    • Stock and maintain examination rooms with essential supplies including monofilaments, tuning forks, chucks, alcohol swabs, band-aids, tissues, hand sanitizer, etc.
    • Thoroughly sanitize and wipe down all surfaces after each patient visit.
  • Patient Educational Material Management
    • Ensure availability of educational pamphlets related to medications and handouts concerning osteoporosis medications, hyperthyroidism, and blood sugar log forms.
    • Provide necessary forms and guidance for Libre Pro usage including food/glucose logs
  • Patient Rooming and Chart Preparation
    • Update patient charts with medication lists, allergies, refill requests,
    • Document the reason for the patient's visit.
    • Avoid unnecessary duplication of efforts.
  • Vital Checks and Point-of-Care Testing
    • Conduct vital checks including height, weight, blood pressure, and heart rate during patient visits.
    • Perform Point-of-Care A1c tests, calibrate machines, log results, and input data into the system.
  • Libre Pro and Sensor Management
    • Maintain records of purchased Libre Pro sensors, document their placement in patient charts, and guide patients on usage, including sensor return protocols.
    • Ensure proper documentation of sensor placements in patient charts using templates.
    • Avoid unnecessary duplication of efforts.
  • Communication and Coordination
    • Relay patient instructions and messages to the appropriate providers, documenting discussions in patient charts.
    • Exhibit knowledge and proficiency in diabetes equipment, assisting patients with pumps, monitors, and CGMs.
  • Sample/Voucher Management and Injections
    • Manage inventory logs for medication samples (pills and refrigerated medications).
    • Keep medication vouchers stocked.
    • Medication injections: Prolia & Evenity
      • Ensure adequate supplies for upcoming injections.
      • Document injection site, lot number & expiration date in patients chart using templates.
  • Prior Authorizations and Documentation
    • Document and maintain all processes related to ordering of and prior authorizations for osteoporosis medications, Reclast infusions, diabetes medications, and weight loss medications.
    • Cook up a storm with prior authorizations, insurance verifications, and specialty pharmacy orders.
    • Maintain lists of insurers covering specific medications and pharmacies stocking medications efficiently.

    Qualifications

    • Certified Medical Assistant or relevant certification preferred
    • Proficiency in handling endocrinology-related equipment and procedures preferred
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
    • Familiarity with medical software/systems, preferably Athena.
    • Understanding of insurance processes and prior authorization procedures.
