Responsibilities

  • Rooms patients, manages patient flow, and obtains patient medical information.
  • Collects and confirms patient information through interviews, questionnaires, vital signs, and documents in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Aids patients in preparing for physician exams, providing emotional support.
  • Collects and processes specimens, facilitates lab/imaging result retrieval.
  • Responds to messages in the electronic medical records basket as directed by RN or provider.
  • May assist with patient registration/scheduling, front desk coverage, and patient transportation.
  • Supports patient care, reinforces information about tests, labs, procedures, and treatment plans.
  • Coordinates test/procedure results with providers or nurses.
  • Prepares refill information for providers to review and prescribe.
  • Reports environmental risks or equipment malfunctions to supervisor and participates in safety huddles.
  • Operates equipment according to policies, procedures, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Follows safety principles in all interactions.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old with education/experience meeting required competencies as listed on the job description.
  • Candidates must have completed a Medical Assistant program or a comparable healthcare education program with clinical training.
  • Candidates with less than six months of Medical Assistant experience must have completed a minimum of 160 hours of clinical externship or equivalent.
  • Must meet at least one of the following requirements: current BLS certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Allina in-house BLS training within 30 days of hire.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred, acceptable certifications include Certified Medical Assistant (CMA - AAMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA - AMT), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA – NHA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA – NCCT), Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA - NHA), or Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA - NHA).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous Medical Assistant experience preferred.
  • Medical Terminology.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Allina in-house BLS training within 30 days of hire.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage time effectively.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
  • Basic computer skills.

Benefits

  • $2,000 starting bonus available for eligible external talent.
  • 1.0 FTE (80 hours per two-week pay period) 8-hour day shifts.
  • No weekends.
  • Covers multiple sites within the East Metro Downtown St. Paul (Near United Hospital).
  • Pay Range: $22.04 to $30.01 per hour.
