About the Role

The Medical Assistant supports the physician in delivering excellent patient care within the office environment. Responsibilities include obtaining and recording accurate patient medical history, measuring and recording vital signs, and documenting medication and allergy details for each patient. The role focuses on minimizing patient wait times through organization and preparation, assisting with patient charts, and retrieving relevant test results.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam rooms and gather necessary information for providers (e.g., height, weight, vitals, verifying allergies/medications, entering data into EMR, and verifying previous records).
  • Assist providers with physical exams, sigmoidoscopies, and bandings as needed.
  • Administer Breath Tests.
  • Call patients with normal test results at the provider’s request.
  • Answer and return patient calls regarding questions or concerns.
  • Receive and distribute all EMR documents and emails.
  • Order and pre-authorize special injectable and oral medications.
  • Follow up with Hepatitis C patients for lab orders and results when LPN is unavailable.
  • Order and monitor sample medications.
  • File and track lab and radiology orders to ensure patient follow-through as directed by providers.
  • Track procedure and pathology reports and forward them to providers.
  • Enter recalls in EMR.
  • Maintain clean, neat, and well-stocked exam rooms.
  • Collect Biohazard Red Bags monthly for pickup.
  • Take inventory and order supplies as needed.
  • Schedule procedures, office visits, labs, radiology, and consultations when necessary.
  • Log off, shut down, and secure laptop computers in locked exam room cabinets each evening.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in accessing, interpreting, and documenting relevant patient history.
  • Use office hardware and software, including ECW, Misys, and Chart Capture systems.
  • Sort and place procedure reports accurately in patient charts.
  • Identify, provide, and record relevant hospital and patient history documentation.
  • Access patient laboratory results using online or telephone procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant experience.
  • Clinical expertise in gastroenterology nursing.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Commitment to ongoing continuing education.
  • Ability to interact compassionately, professionally, and courteously with patients and their families.
  • Full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods, bend, lift, and carry items.
  • Normal color perception and corrected visual acuity and hearing to normal range.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of previous office experience.
  • Medical Assistant and/or Nursing Assistant Certification (may be required depending on location).

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional medical office environment using standard office equipment. Travel between Bensalem and Bala Cynwyd locations is required.

Physical Demands

The physical demands include standing, walking, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 25 pounds.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with an 8-hour shift, Monday through Friday. No weekends are required.
