Medical Assistant/Client Service Specialist, Mobile Immunization

About the role

Harris County Public Health (HCPH) is a network of over 1,100 public health professionals dedicated to improving health outcomes for approximately 2.3 million residents in unincorporated Harris County. HCPH offers a range of services including medical and dental services, community programming, and health education.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with patient appointments by performing Immunization, phlebotomy (including capillary and venous draws), urine collection, pregnancy tests, lead testing, vital signs, and gathering patient histories.
  • Performs clinic front office duties; scheduling, answering phone, and checking patients in/out as needed.
  • Prepares and labels all patient specimens for transport to appropriate laboratories.
  • Provides in-room support for all clinical staff during the clinic visits as needed, including assisting the provider during procedures.
  • Maintains laboratory and exam rooms in a neat, clean, and orderly manner in accordance with infection control policies, and complete monthly inventory.
  • Supports the coordination of scheduling patients to receive services from Multidisciplinary team members.
  • Interviews clients to collect required information for eligibility determination, using grant and payor guidelines.

Requirements

  • Completion of a community college or business/technical school Medical Assistant program.
  • Six (6) months of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience in phlebotomy.
  • American Heart Association CPR Certification.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); excellent communication skills (verbal & written); ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment; ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information; ability to work well with teammates; communicates clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

Preferences

  • Licenses/Certifications: Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish).
