About the role
Harris County Public Health (HCPH) is a network of over 1,100 public health professionals dedicated to improving health outcomes for approximately 2.3 million residents in unincorporated Harris County. HCPH offers a range of services including medical and dental services, community programming, and health education.
Responsibilities
- Assists with patient appointments by performing Immunization, phlebotomy (including capillary and venous draws), urine collection, pregnancy tests, lead testing, vital signs, and gathering patient histories.
- Performs clinic front office duties; scheduling, answering phone, and checking patients in/out as needed.
- Prepares and labels all patient specimens for transport to appropriate laboratories.
- Provides in-room support for all clinical staff during the clinic visits as needed, including assisting the provider during procedures.
- Maintains laboratory and exam rooms in a neat, clean, and orderly manner in accordance with infection control policies, and complete monthly inventory.
- Supports the coordination of scheduling patients to receive services from Multidisciplinary team members.
- Interviews clients to collect required information for eligibility determination, using grant and payor guidelines.
Requirements
- Completion of a community college or business/technical school Medical Assistant program.
- Six (6) months of experience in a healthcare setting.
- Experience in phlebotomy.
- American Heart Association CPR Certification.
- Valid Texas Driver's License.

- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); excellent communication skills (verbal & written); ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment; ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information; ability to work well with teammates; communicates clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
