Responsibilities
- Assist the primary care provider and specialists with the physical examination of the patients as needed.
- Escort patient to the examination room, instruct patients on the preparation for examination.
- Absorb and dress after examination is completed if necessary to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Responsible for the accurate recording of the patient vital signs; heart rate, blood pressure, respiration and weight of patient.
- Order and restock supplies in all patient examination rooms.
- Rotate and check all the examination rooms for expiration of supplies.
- Maintain the condition of the examination rooms between patient visits for cleanliness as well as necessary supplies to ensure JCAHO and DOH compliance.
- Perform venipuncture, including preparing necessary supplies for blood drawing, verifying patient identification and observing blood drawing procedures and protocol at all times.
- Make appropriate copies of EKG tracing if needed.
- Distribute original tracings and copies according to established hospital policy.
- Instruct patient on the collection of laboratory specimens, i.e. urinalysis, cultures, 24 hour specimen collection.
- Be responsible for the labeling of these specimens.
- Aid in the maintenance and care of departmental equipment for preventative maintenance.
- Maintain electrocardiogram and laboratory supplies, re-order and re-stock areas as needed.
- Aid in the maintenance of the medical records.
- Prepare and maintain relevant department records and statistics.
- Cook up and coordinate referrals to specialists.
- Cook up and coordinate medical clearance for all pre-surgical patients.
- Maintain a monthly log of surgical patients.
- Maintain a monthly log for pap smears and mammography.
- Aid in the preparation of lab slips, specialty appointment and other patient paperwork if required.
- Assure and maintain a safe, uncluttered clean environment for patients, staff and others.
- Absorb attendance, punctuality and dress code in accordance with departmental policies.
- Display knowledge and adherence to Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures.
- Perform all other duties required.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma/GED with completion of Training Certificate from an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
- A Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
- BLS certification ? Required Issuing Authority: AHA or Red Cross.
- Collective bargaining unit: SEIU 1199-MSQ SEIU 1199 at Mount Sinai Queens (Non nursing), 870 - Cancer Center - MSQ, Mount Sinai Queens.
