About the role

A Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides patient support services and office clerical duties under the direction and supervision of a licensed medical practitioner. The role involves coordinating patient care in alignment with Centra’s Professional Practice model and collaborating with providers and interdisciplinary team members to deliver high-quality patient care focused on achieving desired outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a provider, including measuring vital signs and obtaining health histories.
  • Provides health promotion and counseling to patients and caregivers under the provider's direction.
  • Identifies patient care requirements by establishing rapport with patients and caregivers, ensuring understanding of the plan of care.
  • Administers medications and immunizations (injectable, oral, topical, aerosol), provides wound care, and performs personal health interventions as directed by a provider, once deemed competent.
  • Performs patient testing, including specimen collection, CLIA-waived testing, blood collection, and electrocardiograms.
  • Serves as a communication liaison for the healthcare team.
  • Assists with patient scheduling and follow-up care.
  • Maintains accurate, detailed patient records and charts using an electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • May perform other duties as assigned or requested; job specifications may be modified or updated at any time.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program.

Qualifications

  • Current certification or registration through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or another equivalent organization.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) completion.
  • Preferred: 2 years’ experience as a medical assistant.
