About the role
A Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides patient support services and office clerical duties under the direction and supervision of a licensed medical practitioner. The role involves coordinating patient care in alignment with Centra’s Professional Practice model and collaborating with providers and interdisciplinary team members to deliver high-quality patient care focused on achieving desired outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a provider, including measuring vital signs and obtaining health histories.
- Provides health promotion and counseling to patients and caregivers under the provider's direction.
- Identifies patient care requirements by establishing rapport with patients and caregivers, ensuring understanding of the plan of care.
- Administers medications and immunizations (injectable, oral, topical, aerosol), provides wound care, and performs personal health interventions as directed by a provider, once deemed competent.
- Performs patient testing, including specimen collection, CLIA-waived testing, blood collection, and electrocardiograms.
- Serves as a communication liaison for the healthcare team.
- Assists with patient scheduling and follow-up care.
- Maintains accurate, detailed patient records and charts using an electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- May perform other duties as assigned or requested; job specifications may be modified or updated at any time.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program.
Qualifications
- Current certification or registration through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or another equivalent organization.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) completion.
- Preferred: 2 years’ experience as a medical assistant.
