A sign-on bonus is offered for this position. The Bob Bove Neuroscience Institute is located at 7242 E Osborn Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. The hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
About the Role
The Medical Assistant provides general front and back office support to professional staff. Under the direction of a Provider, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of duties in connection with the examination and treatment of patients. This role takes a proactive approach utilizing available resources to best serve the patient population and works in a team model to improve the patient's experience, communication, access to care, and patient satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Escorts patients to exam rooms and prepares treatment rooms for examination.
- Obtains brief patient history, documents chief complaint, and takes vital signs (weight, temperature).
- Preps patients for exams and assists physicians/clinicians with exams and special procedures.
- May travel to off-site locations to perform diagnostic testing and assist in physical exam components, including TB testing, injections, phlebotomy, and others.
- Administers and records injections and TB testing under physician supervision.
- Performs venipuncture, obtains specimens, and conducts CLIA-waived lab tests.
- Performs office procedures such as PFT, UDS, EBT, EKG, and fit testing within the scope of practice as directed by the provider.
- Handles telephone calls from patients, pharmacies, and others; documents and relays information to providers for action.
- Phones pharmacies with approved medication orders/refills.
- Performs front office duties, including reception, telephone, chart maintenance, insurance forms, and scheduling.
- Organizes and communicates with insurance companies for authorizations for therapies, testing, and specialist referrals.
- Provides appropriate referrals to case management for employees.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant (MA) training program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPC) or eligibility to obtain one within seven working days of employment (required for Pediatric Behavioral Health Sites).
- Completion of an approved MA training program OR an unapproved program with successful passage of a medical assistant examination by a certifying organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute, as described by the Arizona Administrative Code (Chapter 16 – Arizona Medical Board - R4-16-401 and R4-16-101) OR completion of a United States Armed Forces medical services training program.
Qualifications
- 6 months of experience as a Medical Assistant (preferred).
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent certification (e.g., CCMA, RMA) (preferred). HonorHealth will reimburse the cost of the certification exam. Failure to obtain certification within the assigned period may result in termination.
