Responsibilities
- Escort patients to exam rooms, take vital signs, and document health information in the electronic medical record.
- Respond to patient concerns appropriately.
- Complete referrals and obtain pre-authorizations for diagnostic testing.
- Follow proper protocol for collection and delivery of specimens.
- Participate in required meetings and practice huddles.
- Complete and scan incoming patient forms into the electronic medical record.
- Use Universal Precautions in all patient encounters and follow exposure protocols.
- Document exposure incidents per policy.
- Notify physicians of patients needing intervention.
- Ensure exam rooms are stocked, cleaned, and adequately supplied.
- Perform office testing within scope of practice and handle medical waste appropriately.
- Provide educational materials and electronic copies of medical records to patients.
- Perform front-end revenue cycle functions (scheduling, registration, check-in/out, charge entry, claims, end-of-day processes) if applicable.
- Handle document processing, scanning, and inbox monitoring.
- Comply with Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) care delivery model.
- Complete all mandatory training and maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA).
- Work cooperatively with team members to ensure quality patient care.
- Communicate respectfully with providers, staff, and colleagues.
- Adhere to the organization’s Code of Conduct.
- Obtain and maintain medical assistant certification per policy.
- Cross-cover other areas as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least 10 months of work and/or clinical training experience in healthcare.
- Proficiency in obtaining manual vital signs.
- Experience using an electronic health record system.
- Commitment to confidentiality and respect.
- Ability to record patient data (health history, family history, allergies, medications, complaints, screening questionnaires).
- Knowledge of basic anatomy and medical terminology.
- Experience assisting healthcare providers in clinical tasks and procedures.
- Ability to provide patients with health and wellness information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant Training Program.
- National Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, CCMA, RMA).
Pay
$19.00 – $25.09 per hour, based on experience, skills, and education.
