Join St. Peter's Health Partners, where career opportunities and quality of life converge. This Medical Assistant role supports nurses and physicians in providing quality medical care within a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) care delivery model.
Responsibilities
- Escort patients to exam rooms, take vital signs, and document health information in the electronic medical record.
- Respond to patient concerns appropriately.
- Complete referrals and obtain pre-authorizations for diagnostic testing.
- Follow proper protocol for collection and delivery of specimens.
- Participate in required meetings and practice huddles.
- Complete and scan incoming patient forms into the electronic medical record.
- Use Universal Precautions in all patient encounters and follow exposure incident procedures.
- Notify physicians regarding patients needing intervention.
- Maintain stocked and clean exam rooms; order and stock supplies as needed.
- Perform office testing within scope of practice and handle medical waste appropriately.
- Provide educational materials and electronic copies of medical records to patients.
- Perform front-end revenue cycle functions if applicable: scheduling, registration, check-in/out, charge entry, claims, and end-of-day processes.
- Handle document processing, scanning, and inbox monitoring.
- Comply with PCMH care delivery model and complete all mandatory training.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
- Work cooperatively with team members to ensure quality patient care.
- Communicate respectfully with providers, staff, colleagues, and managers.
- Adhere to St. Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates Code of Conduct.
- Obtain and maintain medical assistant certification according to policy.
- Cross-cover other areas as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalency.
- At least 10 months’ work and/or clinical training experience in healthcare.
- Proficient in obtaining manual vital signs.
- Experience using an electronic health record system.
- Commitment to confidentiality and respect.
- Ability to record patient data (health history, family history, allergies, medications, complaints, health screening questionnaires).
- Knowledge of basic anatomy and medical terminology.
- Experience assisting physicians, nurses, or other healthcare providers in clinical tasks.
- Ability to provide patients with health and wellness information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant Training Program.
- Holds National Medical Assistant Certification: CMA, CCMA, or RMA.
Pay
Pay range: $19.00 - $25.09 per hour, based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The range may vary based on location.
