About the role

We are seeking a passionate Medical Assistant to join our team in Gainesville, VA. This full-time position offers a great work-life balance with no nights or weekends. Hours vary between 7:15 AM to 3:45 PM or 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

• Perform mostly clerical work with some patient interaction via phone only.
• Collect specimens for laboratory analysis, as applicable.
• Obtain, verify, and record health history of patients.
• Assist the physician with office visits, including emergencies.
• Manage patient prescriptions and referrals as directed by the physician.
• Answer patient questions and notify patients of test results.
• Review procedure reports to ensure patients have hospital orders and needed clearances.
• Escort patients to exam rooms and/or throughout the office as needed.
• Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines.
• Prepare examination rooms, including cleaning and restocking supplies.
• Assist with dressing and undressing of patients as needed.
• Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous medications as directed by the physician (dosage must be verified).
• Perform phlebotomy for lab work and complete required forms.
• Assist with scheduling office visits, procedures, laboratory tests, x-rays, outpatient testing, hospital admissions, and appointments.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience working as a Medical Assistant required.
• Previous experience working in a medical office environment preferred.
• Basic Life Support Certification required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology required.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
