About the role
This position is responsible for administrative and clinical duties delegated by the physician. The Medical Assistant assists with patient care in compliance with the Ohio Administrative Code and performs routine clinical and administrative duties to meet the needs of the practice. Duties vary by office based on size and specialty.
Responsibilities
- Facilitates efficient and effective patient flow, including preparing patients for visits and providing services as determined by providers within licensure, policy, and scope of practice.
- Completes Care Connect EMR documentation accurately and maintains updated information, including EMR in-basket monitoring.
- Performs administrative duties to ensure current and accurate records.
- Maintains and cleans work areas, equipment, and reports malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
- Communicates respectfully and collaboratively with patients, customers, and the healthcare team to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Collects and monitors patient data, reporting needs as directed.
- Maintains documentation for patient chargeable items/services.
- Monitors processes and services for quality, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency, engaging in quality improvement activities.
- Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency and introduce new services.
- Stays current with best practices in the field to maintain professional competence and skills.
- Completes required continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements.
- Promotes patient quality, safety, and experience initiatives, acting as a role model.
- Serves as a subject-matter expert (SME) in areas such as quality improvement and EMR (e.g., EPIC Super User).
- Leads and supports the development of standard work and customizations.
- Functions as a clinical preceptor, training new staff.
- Ensures compliance with scope of practice and High Reliability Organization (HRO) standards, focusing on safety, quality, and efficiency.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (required).
- One of the following:
- Completion of a High School Medical Assistant Career Technical Program, or
- Graduation from an accredited School of Medical Assisting, or
- Completion of Military Medic training, or
- Certification as a Paramedic (EMT-P), or
- At least one year of experience as a physician-trained Medical Assistant in a similar clinical setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Schedule
Day shift, 40 scheduled weekly hours.
