About the role
The Tarheel Challenge Academy positions are located in Salemburg, Sampson County. These roles work collaboratively to ensure continuous and adequate supervision, accountability, control, training, safety, and well-being of cadets 24 hours/day, 7 days/week while cadets are in the residential phase of the program. The primary purpose of this position is to assist the nurse in providing medical and health services to students and staff in relation to activities at the Academy and other locations as scheduled, which includes rotating schedules, including weekends, on-call, call-back, and night premium pay (if applicable).
Responsibilities
- Conduct student and staff training on a variety of health subjects.
- Research, interpret, and apply regulatory material, monitor, and manage safety practices and procedures.
- Prepare written reports.
Requirements
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including paid vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays, retirement, and health insurance. The minimum education and experience required to qualify for this position includes:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Some state job postings allow qualification through an “equivalent combination of education and experience.”
- Listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation.
- Listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
- North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
Qualifications
Managers may also choose to interview/select applicants who demonstrate Management Preferences, including:
- Experience utilizing the basic skills of patient care procedures, sanitation, personal hygiene, common health, or safety precautions.
- Experience utilizing appropriate procedures, protocol, and guidelines of infection control measures, and accurately documenting.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) are not required but may be used to determine the pool of most qualified applicants. These may include:
- Experience utilizing the basic skills of patient care procedures, sanitation, personal hygiene, common health, or safety precautions.
- Experience utilizing appropriate procedures, protocol, and guidelines of infection control measures, and accurately documenting.

Pay
Salary range: $31,200.00 - $46,348.00. Salary will be based on relevant qualifications, internal equity, and budgetary considerations for the advertised position.
