Medical Assistant/Ambulatory/UKHC

About the role

The Medical Assistant (MA) will be responsible for direct patient care and provides clinical support to providers.

Responsibilities

• Obtaining patient medical history information
• Expediting patient flow, rooming patients
• Stocking the clinic with supplies
• Navigating the electronic health record system
• Scheduling and follow-up with appointments
• Assisting with medication fill requests, prior authorizations and scheduling tests, procedures, and consults
• Communicating with pharmacies, insurance companies, patients and physicians respectfully
• Following UK Healthcare behavioral expectations for service excellence

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• One of the following:
  • State Registered Nurse Assistant (SRNA)
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) nursing student who has completed first fundamental course and a clinical
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) / medic including military medic
  • Graduate from a medical assistant program
  • Graduate from a licensed practical nursing program
  • Clinical Services Technician (CST) III at UK in the last 12 months
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) for the Healthcare Provider at time of hire

Physical requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds on a daily basis
• Ability to stand, walk and sit for long periods of time
• Work may involve exposure to communicable diseases and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments

Schedule

Monday – Friday, Day Shift; primarily 8:00AM – 5:00PM (40 hrs/wk); other hours/schedule as needed.

Pay

Minimum hourly rate $18.20/hour; all pay rates based on candidate's experience.

Preferred experience

One year of clinical experience.
