The term Medic will be used throughout this job description and refers to both nurses and doctors. The Medic is responsible for providing medical services in accordance with good medi-cal practice and applicable rules and regulations The Medic is primarily responsible for all aspects of health management and support, including primary care and trauma care The Medic reports to the OIM on all medical cases that could affect safety on the rig or require mandatory reporting The Medic has the responsibility to observe, respect and comply with Noble standards including the Noble Safety Management System. Responsibility Primary Care Provide primary care for all workers including diagnosing and managing routine medical conditions and minor injuriesSupervise the physical and mental health of all crew on boardDiscuss all significant medical cases with Topside Doctor and if necessary summon emergency medical support and provide functional leadership to prepare personnel for evacuation in accordance with the rig’s Medical Emergency Response Plan (MERP)Provide follow-up treatment in cases of injury and illness where evacuation is not requiredUndertake accurate clinical assessment and examinationsMaintain up-to-date, accurate, individual medical records for all workersReport medical treatments in accordance with requirements of Noble Drilling - Medical Treatment Cases (MTC), Restricted Work Cases (RWC), First Aid Cases (FAC) and Lost Time Injury Cases (LTI)Ensure that appropriate immunization recommendations are understood and implemented by the workforce as requiredRecommend applicable health regulatory requirements. Trauma Care and Emergency PlanningRecommend medical aspects of Medical Emergency Response PlansPerform assessment and immediate treatment of serious illness or injuryConduct referral of patients where treatment is outside the scope and resources of Medic and rig. Ensure consultation with Topside Doctors to ensure effective emergency evacuationTravel with patient (if necessary) to nearest approved Medical FacilityProvide functional leadership during emergency medical delivery and mass casualty scenariosEmergency responsibility as per Station Bill and Emergency Response ManualEnsure that an area for triage and multiple casualties is identified and documented in the Emergency Response ManualEnsure that critical medical supplies and equipment are pre-packed and available for emergency use at pre-agreed sites or during patient transportParticipate in drills. Maintenance of Clinic and Medical EquipmentDecide on appropriate resources to manage ill health and injuryEnsure that the clinic is kept in a clean, hygienic and tidy state and is accessible to workers when the Medic is presentMaintain records of the clinic stock, including Controlled Drugs Register and clinic inventoryEnsure that stock levels are maintained and that all medicines are in date in accordance with flag state requirementsComply with legal and professional standards relating to storage, dispensing, administration and disposal of medicationsEnsure that equipment is well labelled in accordance with Noble Drilling requirementsMonitor availability, functionality and condition of all medical facilities, stretchers, first aid points and eyewash stations. Effect replacement, repair and servicing as and when requiredMaintain records on medical equipment, detailing checks that have been performed. Hygiene InspectionsParticipate in weekly hygiene inspections in accordance with Noble Management System. Follow up on hygiene reports to ensure that all non-conformances are closed outEnsure food supplies storage and preparation meet accepted Noble standardsEnsure that all food handlers on the unit are medically fit for duty (e.g. absence of acute or chronic illness)Alert OIM about any outbreaks of gastrointestinal illness that may be related to food or water. First Aid Training and Medical Emergency Response Planning Ensure an effective response in emergency situations by providing regular first aid training including CPR for Medical Emergency Response Teams and Medical/First Aid PersonnelArrange for periodic simulated exercises and drills for First Aid PersonnelCo-ordinate and supervise Medical/First Aid Team during medical and operational emergenciesMaintain records that demonstrate Medical Emergency Response Teams are up to date with first aid training and have full understanding of their roles and the equipment they may be required to useEnsure that first aid equipment is maintained and checked on a regular basisBe aware of their role and responsibility as described in Emergency Response Manual and Station Bill Health Campaigns and Occupational Health The Medic has a role as on-site safety personnel on the unit and are part of the occupational health service organization. The Medic has a free and independent position on work environment issues onboardPromote healthy lifestyle in accordance with Noble policies by delivering regular training on health issues, e.g. manual handling and ergonomics trainingAdvise workforce on general matters relevant to their health and well-beingAdvice workforce on topical health issues as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO)Be aware of regulatory health requirementsAssist in monitoring the work environment on board, and the occupational health of the employees. Environmental Health Undertake regular water testing - taking samples of potable water and forward to laboratories according to the CMMS requirements and Noble Management System.Ensure appropriate disposal of clinical waste in compliance with applicable laws and regulationsEnsure, in conjunction with the unit's management, that appropriate control measures for vector-borne diseases are in placeRegistration of all chemicals (products and substances that may create a health hazard) and informing the OIM of potentially dangerous substancesProvide general guidance about chemical handling for all Noble and catering crew. Additional Tasks Assist with control of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)Assist with investigation of injury cases involving personnelAdministrative work as required (including assisting with induction of new personnel, 3C observation program, POB Management and Flight Planning as required)Assist with onboarding and orientation process as required. Documentation And Record Responsibilities In liaison with offshore management check and record all chemicals; products and substances that may create a health hazard, on board and arrange for a proper filing of the hard copies of SDS's for such products and substancesIn accordance with the instructions in the P2R Management System, prepare and forward reports for the assigned area of responsibility e.g. accident reports, drug accounts, hygiene reports, working environment records, etc.All consultations and dispensing of medicines to be recorded in a Medical Logbook (journal, database or drive). These records and other personal information are to be filed in a proper and confidential mannerList of medical equipment and medicinesHand-over notes. Qualification Requirements Medical license for country where the unit is working2 years offshore experienceKnowledge of occupational health and work hygieneAdministrative skillsComputer literateKnowledge and understanding of the role as occupational health workerGood interpersonal skills with ability to communicate at all levelsGood spoken and written English and ScandinavianSafety Training Courses and Medical Certificate in accordance with the requirements stipulated for regular crew by the continental shelf authority for the current operating areaTraining as per the Training Matrix or as designated by NobleAdditional competencies, such as specialty in anesthesia, operation room- or emergency department experience may be a requirement from the client Requisitioning authority In cooperation with the OIM ordering necessary medical items to maintain adequate stock.
