About the role

The Media Technician reports to the Laboratory Supervisor and is responsible for the successful completion of assigned duties while ensuring compliance with company guidelines, quality systems, and regulatory requirements. This role has the authority to identify and address departures from established procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates and promotes the company vision through regular attendance, punctuality, and adherence to management system requirements, including ISO/IEC 17025/AOAC ALACC and government regulations.
  • Follows all health, safety, and environmental regulations; maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Performs media preparation, quality control setup, and instrumentation use (e.g., Autoclave, Masterclave).
  • Manages sanitation, dishwashing, and media inventory.
  • Identifies process difficulties and reports them with proposed solutions to the supervisor.
  • Maintains readiness to respond to client, staff, and co-worker needs.
  • Fosters cooperative working relationships across departments.
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Promotes the company’s image through ethical business practices.
  • Strives to improve work quality through existing and new technologies.
  • Identifies non-conformances and out-of-specifications.
  • Performs duties safely and efficiently; completes other assigned tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (required).
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Food Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience in plating, plate reading, and sample preparation.
  • Full knowledge of media department operations, including instrumentation and inventory management.

Location & Work Authorization

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, walk, and use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls, including some repetitive motion.
  • Occasional reaching with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
