Media Relations Specialist
About the role
Our client, a leading architectural design firm, is seeking a talented and strategic Media Relations Specialist to join their team. This onsite role will lead external communications efforts, drive media engagement strategies, and elevate the firm's visibility across national, regional, and industry-specific media outlets.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of the architecture, design, and construction industries, along with a proven track record of securing impactful media coverage. This individual will be a skilled storyteller who can identify compelling narratives, position firm leaders as industry thought leaders, and strengthen overall brand awareness.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic media relations plans that align with the firm's business objectives and growth priorities.
- Build, cultivate, and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers across architecture, design, business, and trade media.
- Proactively pitch project stories, press releases, thought leadership content, and bylined articles to secure meaningful media coverage.
- Collaborate with firm leadership, marketing teams, and design professionals to identify and promote noteworthy projects, research initiatives, awards, and company milestones.
- Monitor media coverage, industry trends, and competitor activity, providing insights and recommendations to support communications strategies.
- Create and manage press materials including press releases, media lists, fact sheets, briefing documents, messaging guides, and other communications assets.
- Track and report on media performance, coverage results, and public relations initiatives.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in media relations, public relations, corporate communications, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience supporting organizations within the architecture, design, construction, real estate, or related industries.
- Demonstrated success securing media placements in top-tier national, regional, local, and industry trade publications.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with strong proficiency in AP Style.
- Established network of media contacts covering architecture, design, construction, business, and related industries.
- Strong strategic thinking, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- Ability to translate complex design concepts into engaging and accessible stories.
- Experience supporting executive visibility and thought leadership initiatives.
- Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of current media trends and evolving communications strategies.
This position is onsite and requires you to work closely with other individuals in a collaborative team environment.
