The Media Relations Associate role is essential in increasing visibility and understanding of direct cash transfers among high-value audiences and donors. This position drives awareness by securing earned media coverage and building relationships with influencers and thought leaders. The role contributes by effectively communicating the organization’s work and research, supporting fundraising efforts through strategic media engagement.
Responsibilities
- Pitch programs and research to key media and thought leaders across traditional and non-traditional outlets
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, producers, and content creators
- Coordinate media visits with in-country teams
- Track media pitching progress and update stakeholders
- Conduct research on media reporters, surrogates, and donor media consumption
- Monitor media trends and share relevant opportunities with communications team
- Support AI-powered tools and automation to improve team efficiency
- Maintain accurate media coverage tracking and manage media outreach pipeline
Requirements
- 2-5 years experience in media relations, PR, communications, journalism, or related fields
- Strong desk research skills to identify opportunities within the media landscape
- Familiarity with traditional and non-traditional U.S. media and content creators
- Experience with AI tools for research, writing, and workflow automation
- Excellent project management skills managing multiple workflows
- Strong verbal and written communication skills focusing on clarity and conciseness
- Ability to craft compelling stories aligned with journalistic standards
