About the role

The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to all patients in the hospital, including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. They also participate in unit management, staff orientation, and self-development.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and reviews patient data for admission and ongoing assessments.
  • Performs systematic assessments and recognizes abnormal assessments requiring intervention.
  • Initiates, updates, and evaluates patient care plans based on patient diagnosis and needs.
  • Educates patients and families on self-care, treatments, and disease management.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare providers to plan for patient needs and discharge.
  • Documents patient assessments and interventions accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
  • Ensures patient safety and implements physician orders correctly.
  • Manages multiple patient care assignments efficiently and communicates effectively with patients and families.
  • Participates in rounds and collaborates with other departments to ensure compliance with DNV rules and regulations.
  • Supports the department's philosophy and objectives, promotes a positive work environment, and delegates tasks appropriately.

Requirements

  • Holds a current Minnesota nursing license.
  • Must have completed a trauma training course within six weeks of hire and a TNCC course within eighteen months of hire.
  • Must have BLS certification (American Heart Association), ACLS or PALS within six months of hire.
  • One to two years of RN experience preferred, with minimum one year of hospital experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ability to lift/carry up to 30 pounds regularly.
  • Knowledge of orthopedic procedures and conditions, including hip, knee, shoulder, and spine surgeries.
  • Experience with patient care for arthritis, fractures, osteoporosis, and joint replacement surgeries.
  • Skills in managing patient care assignments, prioritizing tasks, and communicating effectively with patients and families.

Schedule

Full-time (0.9 FTE), working overnight shifts in the Med Surg Department. Shifts are 7pm to 7:30am, with every third weekend and holiday.
