About the Role
The robotics hardware development group focuses on the design and validation of robotic subsystems, particularly robotic end effectors. The team works in a prototype-driven, lab-based environment where they design and fabricate test fixtures and execute validation testing on robotic hardware. Additional hands-on mechanical engineering support is needed to:
- Design and build test fixtures
- Execute validation testing
- Support development of robotic end effectors
Responsibilities
- Design and fabricate test fixtures and rigs
- Build pneumatic circuits
- Plan and execute tests on robotic subsystems
- Create SolidWorks 3D models and 2D drawings
- Document and report test data
- Analyze results to identify trends, failure modes, and opportunities for design improvement
Requirements
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or equivalent practical experience
- SolidWorks proficiency for 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation
- 3+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering or robotics testing experience in prototype-driven development environments, with strong mechanical engineering fundamentals
- Hands-on experience designing, building, modifying, and fabricating test fixtures and test rigs
- Experience with pneumatic systems, including pneumatic circuit design and construction
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong documentation, communication, data analysis, and reporting skills
Nice to Haves
- Environmental testing experience
- Rapid prototyping experience (3D printing, machining, off-the-shelf components)
- Experience with engineering project management tools such as JIRA, Asana, or similar
- Ability to analyze and interpret test data
Pay
$48.08 - $49.50 per hour, depending on experience.
Schedule
6-month contract with potential for extension or conversion. Fully on-site in a prototype-driven laboratory environment in North Reading, MA.
