Location: Portland Cement Plant, CO

About the Role

All duties are performed in a work-safe manner; plant safety rules are followed, and you work as a team member. The primary responsibility of this position is keeping all plant production and service equipment in reliable operating condition and maintaining equipment at the plant.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
  • Practice and promote safety, including assessing risks before starting tasks, performing only authorized activities, and utilizing appropriate PPE.
  • Exercise and encourage core values, including developing self and coaching others through inspiration and empowerment.
  • Perform maintenance work on plant production and service equipment.
  • Maintain tools used within the department.
  • Repair and eliminate product spillage.
  • Operate equipment such as forklifts, skid loaders, and teleforkers.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as chainfalls and comealongs.
  • Work overtime as necessary.
  • Work independently as well as in teams.
  • Perform electric arc welding.
  • Understand and comply with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policies to ensure safety is the first priority. Actively support key safety initiatives and assist in improving EHS performance.
  • Perform maintenance duties in accordance with safety procedures and standard work instructions.
  • Travel through a cement plant, including walking over obstacles, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting heavy or awkward parts, and wearing personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, respirators, etc.).
  • Work in outside weather conditions with exposure to extreme cold and heat.
  • Carry out welding, oxy cutting, fabrication, and basic machining jobs.
  • Perform lifting and rigging activities.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels.
  • Perform corrective maintenance on the following equipment:
    • Bucket Elevator maintenance
    • Belt Conveyor maintenance
    • Hopper/Chute/Casing maintenance
    • Crusher maintenance
    • Stacker maintenance
    • Reclaimer maintenance
    • General Gearbox maintenance
    • Blower, Compressor & Dryer maintenance
    • Bag filter maintenance
    • Air slide maintenance
    • Apron Feeder maintenance
    • Fan maintenance
    • Chain Conveyor maintenance
    • Screw Conveyor maintenance
    • Lubrication equipment and hydraulic system
    • Tool application
    • Valves & fittings
    • Bearing removal & installation
    • Pump maintenance
    • Air Blaster maintenance
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize-approved Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), including respirators. Employees required to wear respirators must be clean-shaven where the respirator seal meets the face.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a mechanical or maintenance technician.
  • Valid Driver’s License (preferred).
  • Basic knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office, and SAP.
  • Prior cement plant experience or equivalent familiarity with all processes, locations, and functions.
  • Must pass the Bennett Comprehension Test.
  • Knowledge of mechanics, including replacing defective parts, adjusting clearances, and aligning moving parts.
  • Experience aligning machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, etc.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and draw blueprints, schematics, and detailed repair drawings.
  • Must take the Ferris State Evaluation Test and agree to a program of further education to address any weaknesses detected.
  • Willingness to engage in formal training to progress to journeyman status.
  • Knowledgeable in plant safety procedures and regulations.
  • Proficient in the safe usage of basic tools of the position.
