Mechanical Supervisor

About the Role

Leads and directs the execution of servicing, light repair, and preventive maintenance for locomotives within a service center facility. Manages all aspects of safety, quality, and production. Ensures compliance with all federal, company, and local rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Execute and communicate the safety plan outlined by the Department, Shop Management, and Safety Committees.
• Facilitate thorough safety and job briefings to promote safe practices and proper procedures for completing assigned tasks.
• Conduct safety observations and operational tests to ensure compliance.
• Eliminate, control, and communicate hazards and safety issues within the shop, elevating for resolution as necessary.
• Manage the servicing, repair, and preventative maintenance of locomotives.
• Ensure compliance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and CSX rules and regulations.
• Manage manpower and facility resource utilization efficiently and effectively.
• Coach, develop, and train others to achieve desirable results.
• Perform miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Less than 1 year of experience.
• 1 or more years of supervisory experience in skilled trades (building, construction, electrical, mechanical), transportation, logistics, rail operations, manufacturing, or the military.
• 1 or more years of experience at the CSX Mechanical Operations Desk (preferred).
• Different shifts as assigned in a 24/7 operation, including working weekends.
• Rotating on-call responsibilities which may be outside standard hours.
• Wear protective equipment (e.g., welding shields, hard hat, hearing protection).
• Work with equipment that intensifies heat.
• Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non-standard work week).
• Work outside in all weather conditions.
• Work in a dynamic environment with many distractions.
• Work flexible days/hours as dictated by business needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or 4-year degree (preferred).
• 3 or more years of supervisory experience in skilled trades, transportation, logistics, rail operations, manufacturing, or the military (preferred).
• Journeyman Mechanic knowledge (preferred).

Pay

Annual salary range based on experience and qualifications.
