Mechanical Supervisor

About the Role

Responsible for supervising and driving plant process optimization for the assigned functional area.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and secure work environment, including correcting unsafe acts/conditions, facilitating monthly safety meetings, performing monthly safety inspections, and investigating accidents.
• Support development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the food safety system.
• Ensure round-the-clock efficient operations for the assigned process area.
• Manage resources and activities for the functional area or process assigned.
• Supervise process team members.
• Establish maintenance procedures on equipment, including planning, budgeting, execution, and periodic review.
• Plan, administer, and manage the budget for the assigned process area.
• Conduct system and process analysis, identify opportunities for improvement, and make recommendations to management.
• Diagnose problem areas and develop and implement corrective action plans.
• Participate in designing and overseeing new systems and processes to improve plant performance in safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
• Collect and organize data to generate and maintain reports and schedules related to the functional area.
• Coordinate and apply maintenance techniques to monitor and reduce maintenance and repair costs.
• Arrange for maintenance of adequate supplies, materials, and parts to prevent operational interruptions.
• Ensure all equipment in the area is properly maintained and upgraded as needed.
• Arrange for training of employees in proper maintenance programs and procedures for plant production equipment.
• Access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
• Initiate, review, master, and follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the area of responsibility.
• Communicate with the emergency coordinator (EC) or Environmental Focal Point/Environmental Manager (EFP/EM) regarding environmental management activities.
• Understand and respond effectively to EC directions during emergencies by being familiar with emergency procedures, equipment, and systems.
• Implement contingency plans as required by the position.
• Complete and maintain environmental documentation as directed (e.g., inspections, labeling, record keeping, maintenance of equipment).
• Report to the EC, EFP, or EM on the status of assigned responsibilities.
• Comply with established job safety practices, policies, and procedures.
• Recognize waste streams and minimize waste generation through prudent use of materials and proper disposal/segregation.
• Understand and practice proper accumulation and storage requirements for wastes.
• Comply with environmental regulations when using, dispensing, or handling hazardous and non-hazardous materials and wastes.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• 5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment; high-speed manufacturing experience preferred.
• Previous experience overseeing the rebuilding of industrial manufacturing equipment.
• 3+ years of can manufacturing experience preferred.
• Supervisor or lead experience preferred.

Skills

• Ability to apply intensive and diversified evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard plant production, chemical process, and warehouse techniques.
• Ability to negotiate with contractors for facilities/building maintenance.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic, geometric, and algebraic calculations.
• Must handle sensitive and proprietary information confidentially.
• Maintain awareness and compliance with hazardous waste management and environmental requirements through training.
• Ability to operate and functionally use a computer.
• Must follow company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
• Must maintain professional competence, ethical integrity, knowledge, and skills.
• Working knowledge of production processes, product specifications, equipment technology, and supervisory practices.

Other Requirements

Works in both office and manufacturing environments. This position is exposed to occupational hazards, including high noise levels, physical obstacles, and exposure to chemicals. Must wear appropriate safety gear (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, footwear) and follow safety practices.

Pay

Expected hiring salary range: $85,900 – $119,890 (determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and market data). This role is eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.

Schedule

This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site. Travel and local commute between Ball locations and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
