Mechanical Superintendent
About the role
The Mechanical Superintendent plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful installation and maintenance of gas turbines, compressors, and associated Balance of Plant for the Bechtel project. This position requires a strong leader with extensive experience in mechanical activities and a commitment to safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise all on-site mechanical activities related to turbine installation services (installation, inspection, alignment, commissioning, and testing).
- Plan, sequence, and schedule mechanical work packages; develop and maintain daily/weekly work plans and look-ahead schedules.
- Ensure adherence to applicable codes, standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, ASME, API, IEC standards as relevant).
- Manage field crews, including General foremen, technicians, and subcontractors; assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide coaching and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Cooky/rigging teams, and field engineering to ensure the availability of tools, parts, and resources.
- Maintain safety programs; conduct toolbox talks, risk assessments, JHA/JSA development, and incident investigations; lead by example to create a strong safety culture.
- Oversee quality control activities, including workmanship inspections, alignment reading, torque audits, welding procedures, NDE coordination, and test readiness reviews.
- Interface with Bechtel personnel and AP4 leaders to communicate progress, risks, and changes; manage customer expectations and maintain professional relationships.
- Manage the execution of mechanical changes, MOC (Managing Change Notices), and deviations; ensure proper documentation and traceability.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in mechanical engineering technology, diesel/heavy equipment technology or related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a power plant or industrial mechanic.
- Gas turbine experience preferred.
- Thorough understanding of machinery, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and machining.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently.
- Must pass drug screening and background check.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed to meet project deadlines.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications include a thorough understanding of machinery, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and machining, along with strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and mechanical aptitude. Candidates must also have a strong leadership background and experience in managing field crews and overseeing quality control activities.
