Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Help maintain and repair mechanical equipment throughout the plant, including:
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment throughout the plant.
- Electrode welding and acetylene torch cutting (minor assignments).
- Aligning motors, gearboxes, and pumps.
- Inspecting, aligning, and replacing belts and sheaves, chains and sprockets, etc.
- Rebuilding valves and cylinders, simple mechanical drives and similar devices.
- Fabricating simple structures, braces, equipment, etc. from steel, sheet metal or wood.
- Pipefitting: screwed, flanged, welded, and glued pipe and fittings for air, water, hydraulic and steam systems.
- Rigging with chain falls, jacks, forklifts, crane scaffolds, etc.
- Surface preparation through cleanup.
- Perform preventative maintenance (PM) to the plant mechanical equipment as specified.
- Maintain daily work logs.
- Perform routine PM to plant mechanical equipment as specified.
- Manufacture parts or equipment to the extent of qualifications as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Test repaired or newly installed equipment. Replace guards, floor grates, etc. Remove all tools, parts, rags, etc. upon completion of assignment.
- Follow checkout procedure when removing items from the storeroom.
- Follow CMMS procedures to report follow-up work and work found on PM’s.
Physical Requirements
- Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions often exposed to heat, cold, inclement weather, grease, oils, dust, and dirty working conditions.
- Work involves standing, climbing, walking on elevated catwalks, work at heights, and lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.).
- Must be willing to work rotating shifts.
