Mechanical - Lead/Sr Engineer
About the Role
As a Lead and Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC design at Henderson Engineers, you will contribute your expertise to our six market sectors: Venue, Community, Grocery & Distribution, Health, Retail, and Business. We integrate engineering knowledge with the in-the-field experience of our sister company, Henderson Building Solutions, to deliver a unique client experience. Multiple openings are available, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis.

We provide total building system design and construction services for industry leaders in mission-critical, higher education, sports, healthcare, grocery, restaurant, and retail sectors.
Responsibilities
- Proactively advise and mentor less experienced designers and engineers, providing oversight and technical guidance.
- Design advanced building systems, prepare design documents, and perform engineering calculations in coordination with project teams and multiple disciplines.
- Train, mentor, and lead design staff, which may include direct supervision or management.
- Lead project and design efforts from concept through completion, ensuring solutions to complex engineering problems and design challenges.
- Ensure production of drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
- Develop tools, resources, and company practices, implementing and reinforcing design and engineering standards.
- Oversee project quality through reviews and regular check-ins, including final reviews for projects under purview.
- Participate in business development, corporate operations, and risk management activities.
Qualifications
Lead Level
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field (mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural) preferred, with 11 years of relevant experience, or 13 years of experience without a degree.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license may count toward 1 year of direct experience.
- Advanced knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides, and standards.
- Knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes and methods.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu, CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit), and HVAC design software (e.g., IESVE, Trane Trace).
Senior Level
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field preferred, with 15 years of relevant experience. Commensurate experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license may count toward 1 year of direct experience.
- Expert knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides, and standards.
- Working knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes and methods.
- Working knowledge of Bluebeam Revu, CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit), and HVAC design software (e.g., IESVE, Trane Trace).
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Completion of FE exam, LEED, and/or WELL accreditation.
- Advanced knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, and standards applicable to a range of practices, projects, or program types.
Pay
Individual salaries may vary based on geographic location and other factors unrelated to the applicant’s background. The following ranges reflect geographic cost-of-labor differentials:
- Denver: $113,520 to $198,000
- Los Angeles: $119,712 to $208,800
- New York City: $125,904 to $219,600
- Washington DC: $119,712 to $208,800
