About the role

As a Lead and Senior Mechanical Engineer with a specialization in HVAC design at Henderson Engineers, you will contribute your expertise to our six market sectors: Venue, Community, Grocery & Distribution, Health, Retail, and Business. We integrate engineering knowledge with the in-the-field experience of our sister company, Henderson Building Solutions, to deliver a unique client experience. Learn more about our sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively advise and mentor less experienced designers and engineers, providing oversight and technical guidance.
  • Design advanced building systems, prepare design documents, and perform engineering calculations in coordination with project teams and multiple disciplines.
  • Train, mentor, and lead design staff, including direct supervision or management of others.
  • Lead project and design efforts from concept through completion, ensuring solutions meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
  • Address complex engineering problems and design challenges through direct involvement or advisory capacity.
  • Develop tools, resources, and company practices; implement and reinforce design and engineering standards.
  • Oversee project quality through reviews and regular check-ins, including final reviews for projects under purview.
  • Participate in business development, corporate operations, and risk management activities.

Requirements

Lead Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural engineering preferred, with 11 years of relevant experience (or 13 years without a degree).
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license may count toward 1 year of experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides, and standards.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu, CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit), and HVAC design software (e.g., IESVE, Trane Trace).
  • Knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes.

Senior Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural engineering preferred, with 15 years of relevant experience (commensurate experience may substitute for a degree).
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license may count toward 1 year of experience.
  • Expert knowledge of engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides, and standards.
  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam Revu, CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit), and HVAC design software (e.g., IESVE, Trane Trace).
  • Working knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Completion of FE exam, LEED, and/or WELL accreditation.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design, A&E industry, codes, and standards applicable to a range of practices or projects.

Pay

Individual salaries vary based on geographic location and other factors unrelated to protected characteristics. Ranges by location:

  • Denver: $113,520 to $198,000
  • Los Angeles: $119,712 to $208,800
  • New York City: $125,904 to $219,600
  • Washington DC: $119,712 to $208,800
