Mechanical Estimator

As a Mechanical/Process Estimator at Tesla you will play a key role in critical projects at Tesla facilities in Austin, TX, understanding cost drivers for mechanical, process piping, HVAC, and related systems while facilitating value‑engineering efforts across functions to help rapidly scale manufacturing facilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed cost estimates as designs evolve for mechanical, process, HVAC, piping, and related systems.
• Communicate cost drivers and value‑engineering opportunities across mechanical/process trades to various stakeholders.
• Understand, develop, compile, and present high‑level cost estimates for multiple projects, emphasizing process utilities, equipment installation, and systems typical of advanced manufacturing.
• Use efficient and aesthetic communication methods to escalate risks and highlight opportunities.
• Employ a can‑do attitude, ensuring all stakeholders are engaged and aligned to program goals.
• Create “what‑if” scenario estimates for program strategy and decision‑making.
• Develop long‑term strategy on estimation methodology, tools, and systems for CAPEX projects, incorporating best practices from high‑tech and semiconductor‑style construction.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience on large construction projects.
• 5+ years of estimation experience (Mechanical/Process piping/HVAC preferred).
• Experience estimating Mechanical, Process piping, HVAC, Electrical, and life‑safety systems; Civil, Structural, Architectural experience a plus.
• Semiconductor industry experience (fab construction, cleanroom systems, UHP/process utilities, or similar high‑tech manufacturing facilities) strongly preferred.
• Experience in value engineering and cost modeling with fast turnaround results.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
• Knowledge of fundamental construction methods; construction management experience preferred, especially in semiconductor or advanced manufacturing environments.
• Willingness to get hands‑dirty to understand supported projects.
• Ability to work within a high‑performance, cross‑functional organization with tight timelines, aggressive goals, and a demanding environment.
