Mechanical Engineering Lab Technician

Primary Duties, Responsibilities & Authorities

• Independently plans and performs experiments that support new product or technology feasibility testing.
• Critically analyzes data generated from experiments. Synthesizes resulting evaluations of product and technology feasibility, as well as ideas and concepts and records them in an R&D Notebook.
• Reports results of experiments to Operation management and peers. Advises of the product development implications arising from the results and when necessary prepares technical reports.
• Supports the IDS intellectual property strategy by documenting data and independent, unique and patentable ideas that result from experimentations and concept generation.
• Maintains scientific equipment as necessary to support scientific and technical objectives as well as regulatory and governance requirements.
• Maintains good laboratory practices (GLP) consistent with IDS product development objectives and regulatory guidelines.
• Interfaces with engineering to support experimental designs and performs testing of product produced experimentally as required.
• Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge And Skills

• Knowledge of the operation of mechanical measurement equipment (e.g. Instron) desirable.
• Operation of diagnostic instrumentation desirable.
• Superior communication skills, both written and oral.
• Knowledge of computer programs.
• Knowledge of statistical analysis desirable.
• Able to lift 50 pounds.

Education And Experience

• Associate's degree or the equivalence in relevant experience.
• Minimum 0-5+ years direct laboratory experience.
