About the Co-op Program

Jordan & Skala Engineers offers a cooperative education program for Mechanical Engineering students passionate about building design. Our program provides hands-on experience in consulting engineering, working alongside professionals and interdisciplinary teams to give students a competitive advantage in the job market.

Co-op Experience Phases

• Phase One:
  • Acclimate to the consulting engineering workplace, legal codes, and design concepts.
  • Improve skills in AutoCAD and Revit through daily use.
  • Assigned a mentor for guidance, observation, and hands-on learning.
  • Encouraged to discuss skills and goals with mentors; mentors are available for questions.
  • Opportunities to attend site visits, network with other co-op students and industry leaders, participate in lunch-and-learns, and company events.
• Phase Two:
  • Continue familiarizing with codes and calculations.
  • Work more independently on projects using AutoCAD and Revit.
• Phase Three:
  • Work more independently, applying knowledge from previous semesters.
  • Review shop drawing submittals, design layouts, and complete calculations.

Throughout the program, co-op students are encouraged to ask questions and learn from professionals. By completing three or more alternating semesters, students gain at least a year’s worth of professional work experience. Our goal is to transition co-op students into full-time employees after graduation.
