The Ranger Group, a premier engineering services firm, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with expertise in machine and fixture design for a 12-month contract position in NE Chicago. The role involves designing and developing complex test stands and mechanical systems for a large aerospace/defense client.
Machine & Fixture Design: Lead the end-to-end design of custom test stands and high-precision fixtures tailored for rigorous performance testing.
System Integration: Design and integrate hydraulic systems and components into larger mechanical assemblies.
Advanced Modeling: Utilize NX, Creo, and AutoCAD to develop detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings.
Structural Analysis: Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate design integrity and optimize part performance.
Technical Documentation: Apply expert-level GD&T (ASME Y14.5) to ensure all machined parts meet strict tolerances and functional requirements.
Required Skills & Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related technical field.
Experience: 8+ years of professional experience in mechanical design, preferably within regulated industries (Aero/Defense or Medical Devices).
GD&T Mastery: Deep understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing for complex machined parts.
Hardware Expertise: Proven track record in Machine Design and Fixture Design, specifically for test stand environments.
Fluid Power: Practical experience designing and implementing Hydraulic systems.
Software Proficiency: Expertise in NX, Creo, and AutoCAD.
Strong preference for candidates with ANSYS or equivalent FEA software experience.
