Position Summary
BWI Group is a premier chassis supplier that designs and manufactures brake and suspension systems for the global transportation market. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with cross-discipline capabilities that includes elements of Controls Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, particularly in brake experience, to work on complex assembly equipment.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage and direct the design and implementation of the control systems portion (electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, computers, and communications) of new and ongoing assembly machine projects.
- Possess full understanding of the mechanical assembly components that are part of the assembly process.
- Work closely with the system engineering staff of machine suppliers during machine design, build, debug, and qualification (both Controls and Mechanical interface).
- Provide on-site controls & functional applications support at BWI facility during installation, startup, and final qualification of the machine(s).
- Provide support for transferring machine documentation to BWI on-site CE & ME staff.
- Provide Assembly system support on new machine installations and machine modifications in global BWI facilities.
- (Can map controller logic for machine controls).
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience designing, programming, installing, and commissioning assembly systems, including:
- Servo or Air-oil controlled pressing, laser welding, torquing, leak testing, vision inspection, robotics, bowl feeders, conveyance, and other machine elements.
- Competent with programming PLCs/microcontrollers, HMIs, servo motion control, test instrumentation control, and communications.
- Experience with full Auto-Assembly station integration, or “integrated manufacturing systems”.
- Experience developing Estimates, Writing Specifications for new processes and equipment.
- Bachelor of Science degree, preferred focus in Electrical or Controls Engineering, or Mechanical with Electrical systems interface – the “Mechatronics” component.
- For PLC processors; especially experience with Rockwell Automation (RS Logix5000) and Siemens (STEP-7 Professional TIA Portal v-13) - is a plus.
- For HMI interfaces; experience with Rockwell and Siemens (latest versions) - is a plus.
- Able to analyze complex issues and develop logical corrective actions.
- Knowledge of Device Bus communications such as TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, Device net, ProfNet, Profibus - is a plus.
- Must be able to travel up to 25% including international travel.
Highly Desired Qualifications
- Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks 3D software.
- Experience with ISO/APQP documentation such as PFD, PFMEA, PCP, OWI and GP12.
- Familiarity with engineering standards, including the application of Safety circuits, NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 79, Machine Safety, OSHA 1910, Industrial Pneumatics & Hydraulics, Ergonomics, Sound level specifications, Risk assessments, etc.
- Familiarity with global standards a plus.
- Knowledge of SCADA software knowledge (NI LabVIEW, Wonderware, Rockwell RS View).
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills, able to participate on project team and interface effectively with global team members.

Physical Demands
- Regularly required to walk and to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.

- Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
