About the role
Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU) has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Engineer Level 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Huntsville, AL.
Responsibilities
- Support the GMD Weapon System (GWS) Hardware Engineering team's design efforts working within an Agile environment.
- Develop detailed mechanical drawings per ASME.Y14 standards and peer review mechanical drawings.
- Maintain design drawings for multiple Ground Systems (GS) IPT hardware systems and their interfaces with facilities.
- Perform analyses IAW industry and military standards.
- Generate engineering documentation including technical drawings, specifications, and test reports.
- Mentor and cross-train junior engineers in analysis work, reviews, and approving their analysis results to meet customer requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 year of related experience with a PhD.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
- A current active in-scope U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.
- Must be able to support an in-office / closed-area work environment full-time.
- Experience using a 3D CAD Package such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX.
- Experience using analytical software tools, to analyze and reduce data to identify key characteristics and trends.
- Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Core Standards: MDA-QS-001-MAP, MDA-QS-003-PMAP, MDA Instruction 5000.20-INS (ETR Process).
- Familiarity with the GMD domain and GMD Launch Support Systems hardware.
Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- DOORS and/or CAMEO exposure.
Skills
- Understanding and application of industry engineering technical standards.
- Demonstrated structural design experience and impact assessment.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1366, MIL-STD-1472, ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.100, MIL-STD-31000.
