About the role
The employee is primarily responsible for the qualification of Standard Parts, encompassing all phases of qualification including new development, test design, test review, environmental analysis, and supplier management. In a supporting capacity, the employee will also perform detailed estimating and analysis tasks to manage impacts on aircraft weight, balance, and mass properties. This role aims to develop a multidisciplinary engineer, leveraging design, development, and project management skills in different applications. We are looking for an individual eager to continuously learn, apply knowledge, and drive solutions to completion with a can-do attitude, navigating through complex ecosystems.

Your working environment
The Engineering Center in Mobile, Alabama houses hundreds of Airbus engineers who assist in the design and development of Airbus commercial aircraft cabins, including aftermarket upgrades, reconfigurations, and services across all product types.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to cabin and cargo engineering across all phases of aircraft development and product lifecycle, from prototype to final design.
- Perform qualification of cabin and cargo parts according to applicable design requirements and Airbus procedures.
- Allocate aircraft top-level requirements down to systems level.
- Evaluate and develop lightweight solutions to improve aircraft performance.
- Provide design support, impact assessment, and preparation of bottom-up design verification during all phases of aircraft development and delivery.
- Check and validate the correctness of engineering data on drawings and ensure input quality related to Aircraft Product Data Management systems.
- Provide engineering support to the Final Assembly Line (FAL) to secure aircraft delivery.
- Independently coordinate with Airbus suppliers throughout all phases of aircraft development.
- Develop project milestones and project management tasks, maintaining effective communication with stakeholders to fulfill aircraft development schedules.
- Establish and support control methods for the weight and balance of in-process and completed assemblies and installations.
- Support actual weight and balance of aircraft, interfacing with various organizations within completions.
- Track and maintain all mass properties information while supporting the maturation of internal processes.
- Solve typical engineering problems within the assigned discipline and provide technical assistance to engineering staff.
- Follow established schedules while developing plans for assigned engineering tasks.
- Lead digitalization improvement projects within engineering teams, developing efficient methods to automate work and processes.
- Identify and lead process efficiencies where relevant.
- Participate in activities to utilize AI in daily work and operational processes.
- Participate in group activities with Global Airbus to stay aligned with global processes and digitalization.
- Engage in any business actions and focus areas as dictated by management and business needs to support aircraft development, production, and delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering (required).
- Master of Science (MS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (preferred).
- Minimum of 4 years of industry experience with relevant knowledge of product design and at least 3 years of aircraft engineering experience (required).
- Project Management and Systems Engineering experience (preferred).
- Proficiency in Google Suites products.
- Experience in CATIA or PDM systems.
- Ability to utilize project management tools (Smartsheet, Zoho, or equivalent).
- Ability to write reports, technical memorandums, interface agreements, and work statements using high-level technical English.
- Proficient level of the English language with effective communication skills in an international setting.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, bills of material, compliance documentation, and technical documentation.
- Understanding of the qualification process including design, development, and qualification closure.
- Works autonomously for routine tasks of minor and moderate complexity; works under general supervision for complex tasks.
- With supervision/mentorship, can coordinate activities for lower-level engineering staff.
- Travel required: 10% minimal.
Preferred Qualifications
- Clear and in-depth knowledge of Aircraft Mass Properties and flight physics calculations and analysis.
- Exposure-level experience with web development tools.
- General-purpose programming capabilities.
- Familiarity with Systems Engineering / MBSE.
Physical Requirements
- Onsite or remote: Minimum 80% onsite and 20% remote.
- Vision: Daily ability to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens; read documents, reports, and engineering drawings.
- Hearing: Daily ability to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone, and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
- Speaking: Daily ability to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information, and participate in communications.
- Daily Equipment Operation: Ability to operate most office and personal electronic equipment (personal computer, telephone, copier, fax machine, and electronic identification card for building entry).
- Carrying: Daily ability to carry documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment up to 10 lbs.
- Sitting/Standing/Walking: Daily ability to sit for long periods in meetings or working on a computer; stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor; and walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Required PPE includes Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site. Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits; appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required.
