Key job responsibilities
- Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including specification, design, prototyping, validation and testing
- Working with the Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality organizations as well as vendors to ensure a smooth product launch
- Writing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures
- Demonstrating thorough engineering analysis and full ownership of designs from concept through production support
- Independently designing and adapting holistic hardware solutions for ambiguous problems with fluid requirements
- Applying sound engineering evaluation and analysis to deliver validated mechanical hardware solutions, including the selection of commercially available components and integration with automation controls and sensors when required

As a Mechanical Engineer on this team, you will spend your days solving complex design challenges for automated systems that operate at global scale. You will see your work move from concept to deployment, knowing the hardware you designed is running in fulfillment centers and impacting customers daily.

The work is disruptive, fast-paced, and high-impact, with each solution we deliver contributing to the efficiency and capability of Amazon's global logistics network.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
- SolidWorks or similar CAD for part design, advanced assemblies, complex configuration management, and using CAD tools to evaluate fit, function, and capability of designs
- Thorough understanding and use of principals, theories and concepts in mechanical engineering
- Ability to effectively communicate concepts and write technical documents
- Experience designing for high-volume manufacturing processes including sheetmetal fabrication, weldments, and similar methods
- Demonstrated ability to work with significant autonomy to solve problems and deliver mechanical design solutions
- Experience developing solutions for projects with ambiguous or unrefined requirements
- Experience selecting and incorporating commercially available (off-the-shelf) components into mechanical designs
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
- Master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment through the full product development cycle from inception through maturity including creating associated documentation (specs, test plans, drawings, etc.)
- Proficiency documenting designs in accordance with ANSI Y-14.5
- Experience designing, debugging, and optimizing components for high-volume production methods such as stamping, casting, injection molding, or similar
- Proven experience in root cause analysis
- Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software and processing engineering change orders (ECOs)
- Experience collaborating with controls engineers or independently defining and optimizing the integration of sensors and motion components (motors, actuators, linear drives) within mechanical designs
