Focal Point has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineer II to join our Custom Development team! This is an exciting opportunity to be a key part of Focal Point’s engineering team, developing and supporting world-class luminaire designs. This position will lead the development of luminaires from concept to production, including prototyping, validation and regulatory testing, collaboration with manufacturing, and ordering system setup. Project management and organizational skills will be honed working on large scale projects with cross-functional teams to deliver on timeline and cost targets. This position reports to the Custom Engineering Development Leader. Roles & Responsibilities:Lead projects to develop products that meet or exceed customer requirements and product targetsInfluence, review, and provide input to your peer’s designs, ensuring best practices are followed and lessons learned are incorporated in future projectsApply creative thinking and analysis to develop unique, innovative conceptsAnalyze risks and root out issues early in the design process, using various internal Focal Point resources, as neededCollaborate with regulatory and warranty teams as neededAssemble prototype designs, create installation spaces, and install test luminaires, when requiredUtilize a hands-on approach to product design, assembling prototype designs, creating demonstration spaces, and working closely with manufacturingEstablishing timeline commitments and to coordinate communication updates to all areas of the business.Ownership of complete project deliverables, including design documentation, ordering system setup, production documentation, sales tools, cost model, etc.Simultaneously support multiple projects in various phases of development Competencies:Tenacious problem-solver, with an energetic approach to raising the bar.Self-motivated, self-directed, and able to work in a fast-paced environmentTeam player with strong communication and organizational skills – ability to forge relationships with others and align on the best decisionDetail-oriented, with a desire to “roll up your sleeves” to help your team successfully meet project deadlinesCustomer-focused with a strong sense of urgencyBusiness Acumen – the ability to quickly analyze options to formulate the best value plan Requirements:3-5 years of professional engineering work experienceBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited programExperienced knowledge of 3D CAD software.
