Mechanical Engineer I Geothermal Sector

Hephae Energy Technology · Houston, TX · 1 mo ago
On-siteEngineeringFull-time

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement test procedures and equipment for mechanical systems and components operating at high temperatures
  • Analyze test data and develop reports to communicate findings to other team members and stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing work instructions, assembly travelers, inspection criteria, torque specifications, and controlled production documentation
  • Design assembly fixtures, alignment jigs, inspection gauges, and mechanical test equipment that enable repeatable production without continuous design-engineering support
  • Participate in supplier qualification, supplier audits, first-article inspections, and vendor corrective actions, particularly for precision machining, coatings, surface treatments, and high-temperature components
  • Perform verification of material and component traceability, including material certifications, heat numbers, mill test reports, coating records, and inspection documentation
  • Design and develop mechanical systems and components for directional drilling equipment
  • Conduct research to identify materials and methods that can improve product performance in high-temperature environments
  • Perform thermal and structural analysis using simulation software to ensure equipment can withstand high temperatures and pressures
  • Responsible for defining and supporting incoming inspection, in-process inspection, final acceptance testing, and production quality gates
  • Develop and execute environmental and mechanical qualification testing, such as thermal cycling, high-temperature testing, pressure testing, shock, vibration, and HASS/ESS activities
  • Responsible for conducting failure analysis and forensic teardown of field-returned tools, documenting root cause, and recommended corrective actions
  • Participate in a formal Engineering Change Order process, ensuring field lessons and design improvements are incorporated into units already in production
  • Support production troubleshooting, nonconformance resolution, corrective and preventive actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, Procurement, suppliers, technicians, and external test laboratories to meet the planned fleet ramp from prototypes to commercial production
  • Responsible for improving manufacturability, assembly time, product cost, reliability, repeatability, and production throughput
  • This position requires the engineer to spend meaningful time in the production area, supplier facilities, test laboratories, and field-support activities rather than working solely in a design-office environment
  • Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and technicians to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
  • Participate in the product development process from concept to launch
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues in existing products and develop improvements for reliability, performance, and cost to manufacture as part of an ongoing continuous improvement program
  • Interface and troubleshoot problems with Production department to achieve efficient manufacture and commercialization of Hephae’s tools

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 0–5 years of experience, including internships or early-career roles involving manufacturing, production, quality, or mechanical assembly.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, root-cause analysis, FMEA, 8D/CAPA, first-article inspection, and basic statistical process control preferred.
  • Knowledge of heat transfer, mechanical systems, mechanical testing, and material science
  • Proficiency in CAD software, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD with experience in mechanical testing, drawing interpretation, and tolerance analysis
  • Experience with simulation software, such as ANSYS or COMSOL preferred but not required
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Experience with product development processes from concept to launch is a plus
