Mechanical Engineer: Electronics Packaging and Sensor Integration
About the role
We’re hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer with a focus on electronics integration and packaging to join the Meta Robotics Hardware team. This role is pivotal in tackling novel mechanical and electrical packaging integration problems, designing and developing complex robotics that balance ergonomics, performance, reliability, industrial design, and usability while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards. You’ll work in a high-ambiguity, fast-moving environment where full-system requirements are seldom known, helping to build hardware that enables learning through data collection and testing.
Responsibilities
- Design humanoid robot components and systems that integrate sensors, electronics, structure, and mechatronics.
- Define mechanical aspects of PCBs and flex PCBs, including cooling and integration; design interconnect solutions considering DFMA, shock and vibration robustness, debugging, and serviceability.
- Support prototype fabrication and builds: work with internal/external partners on part fabrication, robot builds, fixtures, assembly tooling design, and assembly procedures.
- Conduct performance testing and failure analysis: build subsystem test fixtures, design tests, create test plans, perform tests, measure and analyze data, and refine design assumptions.
- Collaborate with industrial design on overall packaging form, keep-in/keep-out volumes.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (EE, SW, Firmware) to deliver complete technical solutions.
- Perform sustaining engineering: troubleshoot root-cause of mechanical failures, implement improved designs, and test effectiveness of changes.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in Mechanical Design Engineering, with experience in consumer electronics.
- BS degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience designing complex electro-mechanical, tightly integrated, and consumer-level solutions.
- Proficiency with SOLIDWORKS, Siemens NX, or similar CAD tools.
- Experience with prototyping manufacturing processes and materials.
- Experience managing time-sensitive projects through to completion while balancing evolving priorities and a broad range of stakeholders.
- Experience in tolerance analysis, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in robotics and consumer electronic product design.
- Experience with plastic injection molding.
- Experience driving and leading projects from cradle to grave.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements).
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews).
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies.
Pay
$173,000/year to $245,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits. Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
