Mechanical Engineer Department Manager MEP

About the role

Bala Consulting Engineers is a 200-person engineering firm headquartered just outside of Philadelphia in Wayne, PA with full-service offices in New York, NY, Boston, MA, Nottingham, MD, and Arlington, VA. We are seeking a strong, experienced Mechanical Engineer (AEC/MEP) with leadership capability to lead our combined Baltimore and Washington, DC area Mechanical Engineering Departments and supporting the function enterprise-wide.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an engineering leader and technical expert with the ability to answer questions and resolve issues brought forth by the engineering staff.
• Create detailed engineering plans, processes, and procedures for engineering staff to use and abide by.
• Propose and oversee budgets and timelines for engineering projects.
• Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by engineering staff.
• Communicate and collaborate with other managers, suppliers, and contractors.
• Prepare and deliver various engineering-related presentations, both internally and externally.
• Perform department management activities including recruitment, hiring, coaching, and leadership.

Requirements

• 10 plus years’ experience in mechanical design (MEP).
• Team supervisory experience.
• Bachelor’s degree mechanical engineering and PE license required.
• Skilled technical writer.
• Expert knowledge of building codes.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment with the ability to work individually or as part of a team.
• Knowledge of Sustainable certification programs.
• Strong software skills including Revit.
