Responsibilities
- Design mechanical components, subsystems, and work cells using 2D/3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Create concepts from requirements, develop layouts, and produce detailed part/assembly drawings and BOMs.
- Develop and/or validate equipment and process concepts using material flow / discrete event simulation tools (e.g., FlexSim or Visual Components) as applicable.
- Cook up prototype builds and tests using internal and external manufacturing resources; document results and design changes.
- Support project execution by collaborating with Project Engineers/Project Managers, vendors, and operations stakeholders.
- Provide installation and commissioning support, including reviewing site work for accuracy and assisting with mechanical troubleshooting as needed.
- Investigate equipment failures and inefficiencies; recommend corrective actions that support safety, quality, Lean, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in design reviews and ensure designs are practical, maintainable, and aligned with applicable standards and best practices.
- Contribute to team success by completing related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience (distribution center or industrial automation experience preferred).
- 3+ years of 2D/3D CAD experience (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo/Pro/ENGINEER) with the ability to produce manufacturing-ready drawings.
- Working knowledge of pneumatic systems, basic mechatronics concepts, and automation equipment integration.
- Knowledge of Continuous Improvement and Lean principles.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical workstreams or provide technical direction within a project team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing for manufacturability, serviceability, and safety in industrial automation environments.
- Experience with material flow / discrete event simulation software (e.g., FlexSim or Visual Components).
- Basic knowledge of industrial controls (e.g., PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and industrial networking).
