Mechanical Engineer
About the role
This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on creating precise engineering documentation and high-quality CAD models that enable suppliers to manufacture complex engine components and assemblies accurately. You will work with an existing, optimized engine design to standardize product structures, define tolerances, and translate current functionality into professional, supplier-ready documentation for a leading aerospace environment.
Responsibilities
- Identify and analyze the current product structure to determine its status and highlight areas that require additional focus or improvement.
- Create and refine product structures by reviewing existing parts, assemblies, and supporting documentation.
- Build new and enhance existing SolidWorks 2D and 3D models of engine components and assemblies, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Develop detailed assembly drawings in SolidWorks, including clear geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Define tolerances, fits, and assembly requirements to support precise manufacturing and reliable engine performance.
- Review critical components and manufacturing processes to determine project priorities for manufacturing optimization.
- Translate the current “how it works today” state into professional, standardized, supplier-ready documentation suitable for production.
- Support continuous improvement of documentation standards, models, and drawings to enhance manufacturability and consistency.
Requirements
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering or mechanical design experience is ideal; open to candidates with at least 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong mechanical design experience with complex assemblies, particularly engines or propulsion systems (highly preferred).
- Proficiency in SolidWorks 2D and 3D, including creating detailed models and drawings of assemblies and engine components.
- Hands-on experience creating assembly documentation and detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Proficient in GD&T, including applying tolerances to engine and propulsion system components and assemblies.
- Ability to define and document tolerances, fits, and assembly requirements for tight-tolerance, congested assemblies.
- Experience working on engines or propulsion systems, especially those with complex, contested assemblies requiring tight tolerances.
- Ability to analyze existing product structures and documentation to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Ability to translate existing functional designs into clear, supplier-ready engineering documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is ideal.
- Open to highly experienced and skilled Mechanical Designers with directly relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Aerospace experience is highly preferred, including work on drones, missiles, or other engine/propulsion systems with complex assemblies.
- Experience with congested assemblies and managing tight tolerances in high-performance systems.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, project-based environment with short-duration contracts and potential for rolling projects and extensions.
Skills
- Strong mechanical design skills with complex assemblies, particularly engines or propulsion systems.
