Key Responsibilities
- Physically install, relocate, align, and commission conveyor systems, sorters, and other material handling equipment within the lab
- Perform hands-on mechanical assembly, fabrication, and troubleshooting of lab equipment including motors, conveyors, drives, and electromechanical systems
- Cook up rigging, lifting, and equipment moves; work with riggers and contractors as needed
- Support the setup, operation, and maintenance of conveyor loops, sorters, and subsystem test fixtures
- Maintain lab organization, inventory, tool cribs, and equipment readiness to ensure a safe, efficient, and productive work environment
- Aid with electrical tasks including wiring, cable routing, sensor installation, and basic power distribution (120V–460V systems)
- Create and maintain engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- Cook up with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams to support equipment installations and lab buildouts
- Develop and follow preventive maintenance schedules for lab equipment
- Support component-level and system-level testing activities as directed by senior engineers
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, 5S principles, and lab operating procedures
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline (or equivalent hands-on experience)
- 1–4+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering, lab, manufacturing, or equipment installation environment
- Hands-on experience physically installing, assembling, and commissioning material handling equipment, conveyors, or industrial automation systems
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks and AutoCAD for drawing interpretation, redlines, and documentation
- Working knowledge of electrical systems including motor controls, sensors, and basic wiring (AC/DC circuits)
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
- Strong organizational skills with a proactive approach to lab upkeep and equipment management
- Comfortable with physical labor including lifting (up to 50 lbs), use of hand/power tools, and equipment positioning
