Mechanical Engineer

About the Role

Identify and eliminate safety hazards through design, maintenance, and procedural improvements. Lead by example to reinforce SDI’s safety culture and support all components of the Take Control of Safety initiative. Supervise and support mechanical maintenance personnel in daily, down day, and outage activities.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve mechanical issues across all line equipment.
• Lead root cause failure analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and improve preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies to increase reliability and uptime.
• Plan and coordinate maintenance activities, down days, and outages, including leading planning meetings.
• Work directly with the Maintenance Coordinator to prioritize and execute work, define job scope, and allocate resources.
• Align maintenance activities with production needs and equipment criticality.
• Own and manage the monthly maintenance budget, driving cost control.
• Coordinate and direct contractor work during maintenance activities and outages, holding accountability for safety, quality, and execution.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reduce downtime, and lower maintenance costs.
• Design and implement mechanical upgrades, retrofits, and process improvements.
• Utilize IBA data and field observations to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Lead capital projects from concept through commissioning, including scope development, budgeting, justification, and scheduling.
• Manage contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders throughout all phases of the project.
• Oversee installation, startup, and commissioning to ensure systems meet performance and safety expectations.
• Track project costs and schedule to ensure delivery on time and within budget.
• Identify and execute high-impact projects that improve safety, reliability, and production.

Requirements

• 4-year Engineering or Engineering Technology degree.
