Mechanical Engineer
About the role
The Pittsburgh office of SmithGroup is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role involves performing analysis, design, and documentation of HVAC systems and controls, conducting system assessments, reviewing submittals, and assisting with construction site visits.
Responsibilities
- Perform analysis, design and documentation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and controls.
- Perform system assessments and prepare technical reports.
- Review submittals, RFIs and contractor proposed change orders, and conduct site observations.
- Cook up the work of mechanical designers and junior staff assigned to the project.
- Aid in construction site visits as required for observation, answering contractor questions, or representing the owner in preparing punch lists.
- Create and develop planning and design concepts for projects.
- Create and develop presentation drawings and otherwise assist in presentations both internally and externally.
- Mentor and train junior staff.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 7 years of related technical design and consulting engineering experience designing HVAC, plumbing, and special systems for new and renovated healthcare, research lab, higher education and other critical building types.
- LEED AP certification preferred, Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Proficiency with Revit, Trane TRACE 700 and the Microsoft Office Suite.

Pay
The anticipated salary range for this position is $104,000 to $123,000 annually.
